With three different bodies of water along its coastlines France has plenty of sandy waterfront, beautiful beaches, and a variety of settings to please any sunbather. From the warm crystal blue water of the Mediterranean Sea, to the long, sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, to the picturesque coastline along the English Channel, French beaches are varied and plentiful.
The hot and sultry summer months draw visitors from around the globe, to soak up the sun, and bathe in the cool, crystal clear waters of this romantic travel destination.
To find the ultimate beach spot in France is simply a matter of knowing what type of beach you prefer. From the crowded beaches of the French Riveria, to the exclusive, private beaches in Cannes, or even the nudist beaches of St. Tropez, France has the perfect get-away spot for everyone.
The French Riveria
The beaches on the French Riveria are known throughout the world as the hottest and most glamorous places to tan. The coastline features stunning cliffs and vast expenses of sandy beach. These beaches are also well known for thier slightly wild, all night parties.
Nice, on the French Riveria
Nice, known as the Sparkling Jewel of the French Riveria, offers clear blue waters and miles of white, pebbly beaches, for a more laid back visit to this popular travel destination. The beaches here may be a bit more quiet, for those who enjoy napping, sun bathing, or are just hoping to get away from it all.
Saint Tropez, on the French Riveria
Saint Tropez, a beautiful and famed destination on the French Rivera, is surrounded by endless white sandy beaches and a sunny climate. Saint Tropez is known as a playground for the rich and Hollywood elite. More modest travelers come to work on their tan, or unload money on expensive drinks in any of the abundant and stylish nightclubs. Celebrity watching is also popular. On the whole, Saint Tropez is hip, upscale, and expensive, but never-the-less, a fun city to kick back in.
Saint Tropez offers miles of sand. The Plage de Tahiti, 2.5 miles southeast of town, is the best in the area. If swimwear is making you feel restricted, head east to La Moutte, a naturiste beach, and shed your cloths. Many of the beaches near Saint Tropez are nudist beaches.
Cannes
Many French travelers prefer the more exclusive beaches of Cannes. Visitors staying in any of the posh hotels along the water front will have access to the quieter, more private beaches here. Some public access beach area is available in Cannes, but be aware that there is a fee to sunbathe here, unless you are a guest at one of these hotels.
